Somedayyy (I hope soon) we will be let out of our houses and feel safe to go back into restaurants, bars, and wherever else we like. When that day happens I will break out of my athleisure and into my spring clothes that, for now, hang forlornly in my closet collecting dust. When the day does come you’ll want to be ready with a cute summer outfit.
One of the biggest fashion trends this year that is really fun to wear is the puff sleeve trend. Puff sleeve tops come in a range from minimal poof to dramatic billowy sleeves. Choosing the right top for your body type can be a little intimidating so today I’ll show you some of my favorite puff sleeve tops and dresses and some tips on how to wear them.
One. Short Sleeve V-Neck || Two. Check Pattern Top || Three. Ruched Top || Four. Puff Sleeve Tee || Five. Puff Sleeve Dress || Six. Sweatshirt Dress || Seven. Puff Sleeve Peplum Top || Eight. Swiss Dot Top || Nine. Smocked top
Fortunately puff sleeve dresses and tops come in a variety of “volumes” — the key is to choose a sleeve shape that is comfortable for you and works proportionally with your body type.
: : Pear Shaped Bodies
If you have a pear shaped body (hips are wider than your waist and shoulders) as I do — you are in luck — you can rock this trend to the hilt and go for a dramatic full length puff sleeve. A dramatic sleeve will emphasize your waist and give you an hourglass shape while staying in balance with your lower half.
: : Apple Shaped Bodies
For my apple shape friends (thin arms and legs but you tend to gain weight in the midsection) you will want to stick with a sleeve than has an even amount of puff. A puff on the smaller side will continue to emphasize your slim arms and stay in balance with your torso.
: : Inverted Triangle
If you have broader shoulders than your hips (this shape is also known as the inverted triangle) you definitely want to stick to slimmer puff sleeve styles so you can avoid looking disproportionately top heavy.
: : Rectangle Shaped
The puff sleeve trend is fabulous for anyone who has an undefined waist and not many curves (this shape is also known as a rectangle). For rectangle body types puff sleeves will add softness to your frame. There are a variety of flattering styles but one that is cinched at the waist (like a peplum top) can create the illusion of an hourglass shape and will flatter your frame.
