Keeping the kids entertained and our spirits high is a struggle we face every single day. They’re missing their friends, I’m missing mine — we are starting to feel all the emotions of being sequestered. The other morning one of my kids had a zoom classroom session and there was so much excitement to see friends from school that from even behind closed doors everyone In the house could hear the yelling, screaming, and yelps of excitement. That’s the sheer joy of seeing familiar faces. Here are a few fun ways we can serve others from a distance and foster that connection we are all needing right now.
Create A Chain Reaction
For kids who are missing their teammates, keep them connected by creating a chain reaction. We did this in the fall to reminisce on a fun trip we had with teammates. We stealthily dropped a bag on a teammate’s porch and included a fun memory from the trip. The receiver added to the bag and dropped it off to another teammate. It was a simple act but we heard that it brought a lot of joy and laughter as the bag was passed around. And though we were never on the receiving end, I think we had the most fun seeing that something we had started made its way around the team.
Support A Teacher-Friend and A Kid In Need
There are a lot of caring teachers in the world who want to help and support their student’s who need it most during this crazy time. Reach out to a teacher friend and offer to send an amazon care package to a needy student or donate a gift card to a teacher to send supplies to kids who are most in need.
I’ve always loved a ding dong ditch. There’s no better feeling than to know you are missed by your friends. Surprise a friend or neighbor with a package of homemade goodies and a card to let them know they are missed. Have a favorite juice company, cupcakes, local coffee house? Support a struggling local small business AND bring sunshine to a friend. Win, Win!
Know an older person who might need a few things but wisely does not want to leave their house? Offer to deliver groceries to them. If you have a standing order you can easily add to yours and do a contactless drop on their doorstep.
