What do you think of mom jeans, yea or nay? Mom jeans are the high-waisted denim that we wore in the 90s. Like everything else from our youth — they are back in style. Your daughter probably considers them a “vintage” alternative to her skinny jeans. She also probably wears them with a crop top just like we did in our younger days. As her mother, the challenge with adopting trends from our youth is adjusting the way you style them so you don’t look like you stepped out of a time machine — or worse — look like you are trying too hard to recapture your younger days. Today I’ll show you four sophisticated ways to style mom jeans for the second time around.

Selecting Your Mom Jeans
Mom jeans are a high rise pant — meaning your jeans will hit right around your belly button. This is a really flattering fit for most women because it accentuates the curve of the hips and the smallest part of your waist.
Like the skinny jeans in your closet, mom jeans come in a variety of styles and finishes. You can opt for cropped or regular length, straight leg, skinny, or somewhere in between. There’s a fit for everyone! Distressed and acid washes from the 90s are also popular right now. I purchased a pair of acid washed mom jeans from Express and they were only $48. If you want to try out mom jeans but don’t want to make a huge financial commitment to the trend, here are some of my favorites:
4 Ways To Style Mom Jeans
Wear Mom Jeans With A Classic Clothing Item
Whenever you are wearing a trendy, youthful style it is important to pair it with a classic piece. Remember this formula: Youthful + Youthful = Juvenile. Youthful + Classic = Sophisticated. A turtleneck is a classic style so it works really well with mom jeans.
Tuck Your Top Into Your Mom Jeans
Because the rise of mom jeans is so high, ideally you would tuck in your sweater to make your legs look super long. Since mom jeans tend to be a looser fit, a bodysuit or fitted turtleneck balances out the jeans. The effect is slimming.
Wear Mom Jeans With A Statement Ankle Boot
A statement boot looks awesome with a cropped mom jean. The heaviness of the boots at the bottom with the cropped jean creates the illusion of length so your legs look longer. The eye will be drawn to your boots so make sure they are a fun statement piece you want people to notice.
Wear Mom Jeans With A Jacket And Sneakers
Elevate your look by throwing a tailored blazer over a looser fit mom jean — the idea is to pair a structured piece with loose fitting jeans to achieve a sophisticated look overall. Wearing a jacket doesn’t have to look too stuffy. Throw on a pair of chunky sneakers to make the outfit feel casual.
