The weather has been so wacky lately. One day it’s cold and chilly, the next it’s warm and humid. This makes getting dressed appropriately for the weather a little tricky and I’ve definitely been caught unprepared. I’m still hoping for an early spring so fingers crossed that we are starting to enter the transitional time of the year when it’s not always necessary to wear a coat.
This type of weather is perfect for wearing cardigans. The good news is that there are plenty of cardigans on sale right now from the fall/winter season that you can scoop up at a great price and wear through the spring.
A cardigan is the perfect staple piece for layering. They are so easy to throw on over a tee shirt or tank top and jeans or a dress when it is not as cold. Because you can easily find them in varying weights and lengths it’s a good idea to have a few different types of cardigans in your closet. Here are my recommendations:
- Buy a chunky cardigan to wear inside and for when it is colder out
- Purchase a medium weight cardigan in a decent length (from mid-thigh to the knee). This is the perfect cardigan for everyone and for most seasons. You can wear it with jeans, skirts, and dresses. It’s okay if the cardigan is longer than the hem of your skirt or dress.
- (Possibly) get a longer cardigan that hits at the bottom of your calf (or a duster in retail lingo). This looks great with shorter skirts and dresses and shorts. Caveat: if you are on the petite side, it’s probably best to skip the duster because it will swallow you up. If you are tall, a duster will emphasize your long legs.
