I’ve been getting a lot of questions about my choice in nail color lately. I gravitate toward the blues, greys, and greens (and white is a favorite too!). I love that nail colors have come a long way from what they were when I was growing up. And since I don’t work in an office anymore I feel complete freedom to wear whatever color I want on my nails. Luckily there are so many amazing colors to choose from. So today I’m highlighting a few of my favorite nail colors and some thoughts on choosing the right nail color for you.
Consider your skin’s undertone. Your skin tone is the best way to choose the right nail polish color for you. To learn how to determine your skin’s undertone, you can read my post here. Luckily, there’s a shade of each nail color that will flatter every skin tone. Usually dark nail colors look best on fairer skin, while reddish shades go well for medium skin tones. Darker complexions can wear any shade (lucky for me!).
Consider your lifestyle. If you work in a conservative office or have job interviews lined up, you should probably avoid bright and loud colors because that can look unprofessional. A dark or neutral shade is best for the office. Neutral colors go well for regular use or business meetings, while dark shades can be best choice for night functions. Red is great for any occasion.
Consider the season. The season is also an important factor to keep in mind when it comes to choosing the right nail polish color. Darker nail polish shades look great in the winter. Pretty bright shades are great when the weather is warmer. And just like I wear white jeans year round I also think it’s okay to wear white nail polish before Memorial Day and after Labor Day.
