One of the best sales of the year — the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale — starts next week. While most retailers use price markdowns to clear merchandise from the past season and make room for new merchandise, this sale is all about BRAND NEW items on sale for the upcoming fall season. That’s what I love about this sale! Once the three week sale is over, however, all these items return to their normal prices.
There are some insider tricks to shopping the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. Read on and I’ll decode this sale for you so you can be sure to get the best of the best from this fantastic event.
Become a Nordstrom Cardholder
I rarely advocate to sign up for credit card offers but this one is a must do to get early access to the sale. Early access for cardholders begins on Friday, July 12th. Access for the general public starts seven days later on July 19th. Plus you get a $60 credit from Nordstrom on the day you open your account and make a purchase using your card that you can save to use during the anniversary sale. I didn’t have the card until last year and I can say from past experience the best items tend to sell out before the general public gets access to the sale.
Plan Ahead: Make A list Of Your Needs
The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale is my favorite time to stock up on wardrobe staples for fall. With summer only just beginning I know it’s hard to even think about fall clothes but now is the time to organize your closet and think of any wish list items you might have. Knowing in advance what you need will help you stay organized and not get overwhelmed by all the fabulous items on sale.
Helpfully, Nordstrom puts out a small preview catalog of some items that will be on sale so it helps to scour that and identify the items you think you want. But, just know, this is just a small portion of what goes on sale and you will likely find a lot more once the sale starts.
The best items at the sale go fast so it’s important to bee line to what you need quickly. I prefer to shop online because Nordstrom has the best return policy ever and they offer free shipping and free returns. Who doesn’t love shopping in their pajamas anyway?
If Nordstrom Sells Out Of Your Size, Buy Another
A pro tip to follow for this sale is that even if you can’t find a favorite item in your size, buy it in a different one. Hold on to it and wait for Nordstrom to restock it. Even if it’s long after the sale you can exchange it for your correct size at the same price later. But if you wait to buy it after the sale you’ll spend more for it.
Fall Staples To Focus On
I love this sale because it’s the best time to stock up on fall boots, tops, and jackets. I’ve already identified a few of my favorites from the preview catalog. Expect to find great jeans on sale too. Now is the time to add the new cuts of jeans to your wardrobe. If you missed my post on the must have jeans for fall you can read it here. This year I’ll be shopping for boyfriend and cropped styles during the Nordstrom anniversary sale. I have so many pairs of skinny jeans and I’ll continue to wear them but the popularity of wide leg jeans and cropped lengths is on the rise. I wear jeans most of the year so this is one area where buying an expensive pair of jeans at a discount is a smart move.
This year’s sale includes some pretty fantastic faux fur coats. I heard from so many of you last year that loved my teddy coat and were disappointed it sold out so quickly. I purchased mine at the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale last summer and I wore it ALL WINTER LONG. There is a similar one listed in the catalog this year for under $100.
