So now that we’ve talked about how to recycle your old denim so you can feel good about buying a new pair of jeans, let’s talk about the must have jeans for 2019. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, I enjoy the cyclical nature of fashion. I love that just when a trend has hung around a while, the pendulum swings back and it is replaced with another. Skinny jeans have been around for a while so I’m really happy to see a new silhouette gaining popularity.
I rarely wear skinny jeans these days. Instead, I’m loving high-waisted jeans with a cropped inseam and a straight or wide leg opening. I’m not suggesting you dump all your skinnies but I’d definitely think about upcycling a pair and picking up a straight or wide leg style. While the younger set is styling these jeans with crop tops, no one needs to see this mama’s tummy so I’m gonna wear them with a tank, plain white or vintage tee (and by vintage I mean a band I was listening to in the 90s because that is apparently vintage now, ha).
My favorite brands are Levi’s and Mother jeans and they fit true to size. While the Levi’s felt unforgiving at first, after a few hours of wear they stretched to fit my body so I was really happy I stuck to my usual size (maybe that’s why Levi’s have stood the test of time!). I also really like GRLFRND denim but I feel like I must warn you to expect straight-up cotton jeans. That can take a little getting used to because they are not stretchy at all and you might have to go up a size to get a good fit so you can sit down comfortably and actually eat something.
Based on what I was seeing on the streets of Paris this spring, crop wide leg jeans will take you straight through the fall season because not only do they work well all summer with heels, sandals, espadrilles, or sneakers — you will love the way they look in the fall with your ankle booties too. We’ll get to that later, summer is just beginning!
