Have you noticed that hosiery has made a comeback? There was a time, starting in my 20s, when I rejected the idea of wearing hosiery all together. It felt like an act of rebellion because up until that time it was taboo for a woman to wear a dress or skirt without hosiery in the workplace. Personally, it was a relief to me when bare legs became acceptable because the act of coordinating the color hosiery I was supposed to wear with the dress and shoes was enough to make me change course and reach for a pair of pants instead. Plus, life is so much easier when you don’t have to think about how to fix a run in your pantyhose.
Blame it on Gucci.
Because fashion is cyclical, everything old finds it’s way back in new, fresh, exciting ways; hosiery has regained it’s place in every fashion girl’s winter wardrobe. The twist: patterns are the name of the game. You can credit Gucci for making hosiery popular again with their iconic logo tights. Even if you don’t want to invest that much into hosiery — it is still prone to snagging on a cuticle after all — there are quite a few affordable hosiery options available.
Check out this mood board for some inspiration on how to wear pattern tights in a way that is fashion forward and unmistakably chic.
Are you ready to get back into the hosiery game?
