One of the best sales of the year — the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale — starts this week. I love to shop the Nordstrom Anniversary sale because it is different from every other sale. Unlike most sales that are trying to clear merchandise from the past season to make way for new merchandise for the next season, this sale is all about BRAND NEW stuff on sale for the upcoming fall season. Once the three week sale is over, all these items for next season go back up to their normal prices.
There are some insider tricks to shopping the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. Read on girlfriends and I’ll decode this sale for you so you can be sure to get the best of the best from this fantastic event.
Become a Nordstrom Cardholder
I rarely advocate to sign up for credit card offers but this one is a must do to get early access to the sale. Early access for cardholders begins this Thursday — July 12th. Access for the general public starts eight days later on July 20th. Plus you get a $40 credit from Nordstrom on the day you open your account and make a purchase using your card that you can save to use during the anniversary sale. I didn’t have the card until this year and I can say from past experience the best items tend to sell out before the general public gets access to the sale.
Plan Ahead: Make A list Of Your Needs
The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale is my favorite time to stock up on wardrobe staples for Fall. Now is the time to organize your closet and think of any wish list items you might have. Knowing in advance what you need will help you stay organized and not get overwhelmed by all the fabulous items on sale.
Helpfully, Nordstrom puts out a small preview catalog of some items that will be on sale so it helps to scour that and identify the items you think you want. But, just know, this is just a small portion of what goes on sale and you will likely find a lot more once the sale starts.
The best items at the sale go fast so it’s important to bee line to what you need quickly. I prefer to shop online because Nordstrom has the best return policy ever and they offer free shipping and free returns. Who doesn’t love shopping in their pajamas anyway?
If Nordstrom Sells Out Of Your Size, Buy Another
A pro tip about this sale is that even if you can’t find a favorite item in your size, buy it in a different one. Hold on to it and wait for Nordstrom to restock it. Even if it’s long after the sale you can exchange it for your correct size at the same price later. But if you wait to buy it after the sale you’ll spend more for it.
Fall Staples To Focus On
I love this sale because it’s the best time to stock up on fall boots, jeans, tops, and jackets. Every year there is a great selection of boots for fall. I’ve already identified a few of my favorites from the preview catalog. I love the studded ankle boots and white snakeskin booties that are on sale for under $100.
Expect to find great jeans on sale too. Good American, Rag & Bone, and AG jeans are all included in the preview. I have a few staple skinny jeans in my closet already so this year I’m hoping to expand by adding some boyfriend and cropped styles to my collection. I wear jeans most of the year so this is one area where I’m willing to splurge and have a lot of options.
This year’s sale includes some cute, lightweight floral blouses in fall colors which are great transition pieces you can wear earlier in the season. There are also some pretty fantastic shearling and faux fur hoodies that I’m excited to try on.
