I’ve become a believer in shielding myself from the sun. My favorite esthetician convinced me. She used computer imaging technology to show me what years of unprotected sun exposure had done to my face. I’m scared straight now. I slather on sunscreen everyday (I use one that has 12 percent zinc oxide) and I wear a hat every day. Since most of us moms spend a LOT of time driving around in our cars it’s really important to make sure you are protecting yourself even when you are not directly in the sun. As it turns out, the left side of my face has more sun damage than the right — most likely for this reason. As my girlfriend says, “if you feel heat on your face, you are burning.” I keep that in the back of my mind whenever I’m in my car or watching my kids from the sidelines. This is all new to me. But since I’m worried about keeping wrinkles at bay I’m doing everything she says.
I wasn’t much of a hat wearer in the past but I’ve really gotten into them this year. I feel like I need a variety on hand to coordinate with whatever I may be wearing. I’m especially loving trucker hats. I like that they can take a feminine look and instantly dress it down. I love to wear them with sundresses, fit and flare dress styles, peplum tops, or basically anything with ruffles. And since I prefer a more casual look, trucker hats are more appealing to me than a traditional sun hat.
I’ve linked a few of my favorite hats below. Enjoy these last days of summer. But, friends, don’t forget to wear your hat and sunscreen!
