This post originates from a real life dilemma. After we arrived in Hilton Head at the end of last week the weather turned downright cold. My daughter apparently did not pack enough (read: any) warm clothes. As one does she came over to my closet and swiped my joggers to keep warm on a cold day. I knew there was no chance I would see them again. I also knew I had to make-do to keep myself warm with what I had packed or head to a store. I had packed joggers, a pair of jeans, and a jumpsuit. I wore the jeans when we went out but they weren’t going to cut it for lounging around the house or taking walks on the beach. Jumpsuit to the rescue. That’s when I realized that my jumpsuit was the most utilitarian item in my suitcase.
:: START WITH A SIMPLE JUMPSUIT
What makes THIS JUMPSUIT so perfect is that you can layer just about anything over it to create a new outfit. I wore it on the way down to Hilton Head because it’s stretchy and comfortable for a long car ride. Because it’s a tank on top I knew it wouldn’t make me feel too hot in the car. It’s made of a synthetic blend material. The pants are banded at the ankles like joggers. Theres a belt that goes with it but I didn’t bring it.
:: OUTFIT #1: THROW A JACKET OVER IT
As I mentioned, I wore this jumpsuit on the car trip because I knew I wouldn’t get too hot. When we left our house at o’dark thirty it was cold so I threw my denim jacket over it. It was enough to keep my bare shoulders warm. Because my denim jacket has a fur collar I did not need to add much else. Throwing an interesting jacket over the jumpsuit is the easiest way to dress it up.
:: OUTFIT #2: ADD A SWEATER
On the coldest day of our vacation I really needed to find a way to keep warm. I packed this textured sweater so it was my best option for keeping my bare shoulders and arms covered. I like that it hits right at the waist so there is definition in the outfit. A longer chunky sweater might have made me look heavy on top. A cardigan would have been another good alternative.
:: OUTFIT #3: KNOT A SHIRT AT THE WAIST
When the weather was on the upswing — but not quite warm enough to abandon the jumpsuit — I wore it with a button down shirt tied at the waist. The tie creates definition and interest at the waist and the sleeves on the shirt added enough coverage to keep me warm on a breezy day. I did not pack a belt but a textured belt with a wide buckle would have been another outfit possibility for this jumpsuit.
