Spring break is finally upon us. I’ve been wanting to scratch that vacation itch. Packing is my Achilles heel. Is it for you too? I used to start by packing the kids first and by the time it got to me, I was too tired to put anymore thought into packing and I would end up throwing a bunch of stuff together just to be done with it. I finally got smart and typed out a packing list for the kids, and now that they are older, I hand them the list and they get to it. I ALWAYS review what goes in the suitcase before it’s zipped up because I’ve seen some crazy clothing selections through the years, but it is nice that they give the process a jumpstart so I can spend more time thinking about what I’m going to wear. Which is exactly the way it should be!
WHAT TO PACK FOR A SPRING BREAK BEACH VACATION
:: An Easy Beachy Dress or Jumpsuit
A versatile dress or jumpsuit is essential for your beach getaway. When the temperature soars, you’ll want to be in a cotton or linen dress to keep cool. Ideally, this is one that can be dressed down with a jacket for a breezy evening on the beach, or dressed up with heels and a clutch for dining al fresco.
:: Swimsuit and CoverUp
One piece swimsuits are very popular at the moment. I have to admit, I’m still a fan of the two piece — it just feels more comfortable and I feel a little less squeezed in (or maybe that’s just me). Whatever you prefer, don’t leave home without a swimsuit (or two) and your favorite beach cover up. If you missed them, you can read my posts on All the Best Spring Break Swimsuits and What to Wear With Your Swimsuit for some ideas on cover-ups.
:: Outfit Basics and Athletic Attire
For a week-long vacation I try really hard not to overpack. Especially in these times where we are mostly staying in our bubble and not going out very often and considering that most of the days will be spent in a swimsuit or athletic attire. Two pairs of shorts (one denim, one not), a pair of white jeans, a skirt, a tee shirt, a tank top, and a dressy blouse are your spring break outfit essentials. I always pack a cardigan or a jean jacket for cooler temperature in the evenings. In addition, I pack everything I need for my workouts. Read this post on My Favorite Workout Clothes and Gear to make sure your bases are covered for your recreational activities.
:: Shoes
I could fill a whole suitcase just with shoes — just in case!! This is one area where I need to employ a little discipline so I don’t overpack. Use the rule of three when packing shoes:
- Sneakers. pack one pair of athletic sneakers for your vacation workout
- Dressy Sandal. A nude sandal is perfect for dressing up jeans or a dress on a summer weekend.
- Brown Leather Sandals. You can wear them with your denim shorts or your cotton dress during the day. Wear them with your swimsuit and cover up to the pool.
Read my post on Two Trends In Spring Sandals to help you decide which sandals you should pack.
:: Accessories
A tote that you can throw your laptop, iPad, and anything else you might need to get through the day is essential. You’ll also want a versatile clutch to use in the evening. Don’t forget a hat for sun protection, and a pair of sunglasses.
And you’re off! Have fun wherever you are headed for spring break!
